A blue piece of construction paper backs a white outline of a fish. Red, orange, yellow, and green paper details pop out from the fish body, and the words “fish out of water” are written in black on the piece.
This project helped me reflect on all the ways in which water connects us in a literal and emotional sense. My piece specifically is literally meant to imitate a “fish out of water”, playing with the idea of what it means to remain connected to your roots but explore beyond them. Water connects us all, so can we ever truly be separated from it as we grow? What does growth look like when we explore parts of ourselves we have to seek out?
