My art depicts how water in some communities are precious stones from above.

Growing up in the Dominican Republic I saw how many people were affected by lack of water. Much of the island does not have quality water services and depending on the area may have no water services. These people depended on purchasing water through stores to do daily tasks such as shower, cooking, and cleaning. For those dependent on water for agriculture purposes, such as my family, lack of water poses a problem. Without water, crops would not grow affecting one’s income. Seeing people from my community suffer for something that is essential to everyone, is heartbreaking. Living in America has shown the difference in communities that have access to water resources. While those in the Dominican Republic have to take short showers in order to conserve water, those in America can take up to hour-long showers with little to no worries. Water is essential but for certain communities, it is a luxury they can afford.
