What began as a neighbor-centered, community development project to help determine the future of a much beloved central lot in Minneapolis’ 9th Ward, Roberts Annex now finds itself positioned to help redefine the parameters of how neighborhoods are constructed by centering the social, emotional, and cultural needs and imaginings of the neighborhood in full following the destruction of much of East Lake Street in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis Police Department.
Facilitated by Confluence: An East Lake Studio for Community Design, Roberts Annex advocates for development on its own time, determined through the interactions and understandings of a public in a state of realizing its shared future.
