Gorgeous Offerings

Renee Benson – Jenny Sargent – Jalisa Roberts – Grace Booth

“Distilled Loss” written by the creative team of Requiem for a Stranger explores the idea of a more caring and just world through the internal practice of decolonization of the heart. In many artistic spaces, processes of this kind do not include the Indigenous voice and support a narrative which places the colonial settler at the basis of the beginning of this country.

The Big Bang
of metal
turns holy flesh
into galaxy
Macrogenocide
a blanket of a star
spilled on the pavement

-Jalisa Roberts

Blanketed,
I watch macrogenocide–
the flesh of the earth
peeled away like the skin of an orange
fall, holy, to the floor.
Galaxy shudders.
I dive under covers to escape the daily news.

-Grace Booth

This turning galaxy under the blanket of atmosphere
and the flimsy veil of time
at intervals
this macrogenocide
witnessed by the stars, billions of years old
witnessed by flesh, holy and eternal

-Jenny Sargent

this has been my blanket
has been my lullabye
Holy
your test, a video game controller
in the hands of a 12 year old
beating his flesh
while committing macrogenocide

-Renee Benson
