When I think of rituals, when I think of repair, when I think of renewal… I think of my/our collective. I do not believe healing happens alone, nor repair or renewal. Our practices might be individuals, but the process, affects and communication are rippled back to the whole.
So my process was to bring this piece of art to every meeting with my favorite staff and students one day; I read them the prompt, put all the supplies on the table while we met and asked that if they felt called to add to the communal piece.
This project is so meaningful, because it is so simple yet connecting! It feels like voting or something else that is done nationally, but “individually”/alone. I also loved that the prompt was an extension of my experience and processing of the National Gathering. The question still feels like such a big question, so to answer it as the gathering and by co-creating this art with my people, it felt more manageable. I am not responsible for the whole, I am responsible for my part.
